Floral Design

Floral design is an integral part of Navarre Garden Club. The guidelines for our committee are based on standards that are handed down from National Garden Club and Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. These are listed in The Flower Show Handbook published by National Garden Club.

Our Floral Design committee meets monthly for a “hands on” workshop to learn about flower arranging.  We encourage members to join us whether they are a beginner or an experienced designer.  We usually start in September making “Traditional” designs which are based on geometric shapes.

In November we invite members of the public to our annual Thanksgiving Centerpiece Workshop.  We give step by step instruction and provide the flowers, greenery and other items to make a beautiful centerpiece.  Following this workshop members make over 50 mini arrangements for Gulf Breeze Hospital patients.  This is our major outreach to our community but we also provide when possible flower arrangements to the Navarre Library.  We also make the centerpieces for or annual Spring Fling luncheon.

In December at our general club meeting, we have a floral design activity for the entire membership to participate in.  Then in January we begin learning about flower show designs. This is where creativity comes in and members have fun personalizing these set designs. We often have National accredited flower show instructors (who are also flower show judges) come as guest teachers.  Our finale is when we exhibit our designs in our annual flower show which normally take place in May or June.
