History
of the Navarre Garden Club Betty Pullum moved into the Navarre area in the early 70’s and, having some knowledge of garden clubs in areas where she had lived, thought “Why not a Navarre Garden Club?” She called ladies she had met in the area and invited them, plus their friends, to coffee at her Pine Ranch home. None of us had any real knowledge as to how you establish a garden club, so a call was made to the ladies of the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs. Enough ladies attended the coffee that day, so we asked for volunteers to make up the governing board, write a set of by-laws, arrange meetings and have officers installed which are the criteria for becoming federated. Our first installation of officers was a lovely luncheon at Navarre Beach Holiday Inn in 1975. The Club’s first officers were: Betty Pullum, President; Belle Buckley, Vice President; Florence Assiminas, Treasurer; Cledy Harvell, Secretary. They were installed by Peg Gatcher, District I Director. In 1976, the Navarre Garden Club joined the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs. The Garden Club is also a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. and the Deep South Region. The Club celebrates its 30th Anniversary in 2005. Click above to view photos and tidbits about the Navarre Garden Club's 30 year history. This historical information is an ongoing creation so check back often for added goodies!! We
are proud to have 3 charter members remaining active in our club: Florence
Assiminas, Belle Buckley and Kathleen Wells.
