September 7 • Regular Meeting Program: “What is the FFGC?”, Shirley Brown Bio: Shirley joined the Navarre Garden Club in March, 1980 and has served as Treasurer, President, and Vice President as well Bird, Civic Development, Conservation, and Litter, Recycling & Reclamation Chairman. She served the District as Assistant Director, Director, as well as Litter & Recycling, and Trees Chairman. She has been the State Trees Chairman since 1997. Shirley served as Staging Chairman of the 1990 State Convention and Vice Chairman of the 1994 State Convention. She is a Master Flower Show Judge and has served District I Judges Council as Assistant Director, Director, Treasurer (serving as Treasurer again) and Program Chairman. She has served as Florida Flower Show Judges Council Corresponding Secretary and was Treasurer for 1993 and 1995 State Flower Shows. Shirley is a charter member of the Panhandle Native Plant Club and served a term as Vice President. She has also served as Deep South Region Bird Chairman. She is a Life Member of FFGC, Deep South, and National Garden Clubs, Inc. September 11 • “Maintaining Paradise” - Open to the Public

October 5 • Regular Meeting Program: Our scheduled guest was unavailable due to heavy workload from Hurricane Ivan. We went around the room and had everyone discuss their experience with this terrible hurricane. It was a very moving and cathartic experience. A great meeting. November 2 • Regular Meeting Program: “Orchids” Guest Speaker: Martha Martin Bio: Martha is a member of the Milton Garden Club and she is a student Flower Show Judge. Martha is also a Santa Rosa County Master Gardener. She has been an Orchid grower for 20 years and has operated her Orchid Nursery for five (5) years. November 22 • Third Annual Thanksgiving Centerpiece Workshop - Open to the Public This was a great success. Around 35 folks, members and public, attended this workshop where center pieces were made for donation to the Bay Breeze Nursing and Retirement Center and the Gulf Breeze Hospital. November 29 • Committee Chairmen meet at president's home. November 30 • Executive Board Meeting - 9:00 a.m.
December 7 • Regular Meeting Guest Speaker: Theresa Friday Bio: Theresa is the Santa Rosa County’s Environmental Horticulture Agent. Her focus is to teach County residents how to create and maintain environmentally friendly landscapes. These Florida friendly landscapes minimize water use, reduce storm water run off and decrease potential pollutants. She also coordinates the Santa Rosa County Master Gardener volunteer program. Volunteers complete an intensive course to learn about gardening. These trained volunteers then advise County residents on proper horticultural techniques. Theresa is a graduate of the University of Florida with a degree in Environmental Horticulture and is currently working on her master’s in Agriculture Communication and Education. She has been at the Santa Rosa County Extension Service since 2001. December 7 • Christmas Party Soundside. Here's the scoop!! --- and our thanks to our local merchants for their gifts!! December 11 • Fun with Flowers Workshop #2 - Open to the Public 9:00 a.m. until Noon at the Navarre Community Center. Topic: “Celebrating the Season” – Holiday and seasonal designs/ideas. December 14 • “Light Up Your Life” A caravan tour to see the Christmas lights of the Navarre and Gulf Breeze areas for our members who no longer drive at night. A Christmas Celebration Get-Together will follow. This even was canceled due to inclement weather. January 4 • Regular Meeting Program: “Native Plants and Wildflowers” Guest Speaker: Carolyn Whitmer Bio: Carolyn has served as President of the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs where she is a very active member. She has served as Director of District I and chairman of a number of different committees. Carolyn is currently the District’s Wekiva Chairman. She has served as FFGC Bartram Trail Chairman, Landscape Design Critics Liaison, and Assistant Editor of “The Florida Gardener” where she has advanced to the position of Editor. Carolyn is an Accredited Flower Show Judge, a Life Member of both FFGC and National Garden Clubs, Inc. and, she is also in FFGC’s Hall of Fame. January 15 • Celebrating Arbor Day with a FREE Tree Giveaway. Trees supplied by International Paper Company. Time and Place: 9:00 a.m., Navarre Park. (State Arbor Day is actually January 21). January 21 • Celebrating Arbor Day with a Community Tree Planting Ceremony. Navarre Garden Club will celebrate Florida Arbor Day by planting a Little Gem Magnolia at the Navarre Library. Shirley Brown has planned a beautiful Arbor Day program. Come and be a part of this important celebration! Every time you visit the Library you can check on the growth and development of "your" tree. January 22 • Fun with Flowers Workshop #3 - Open to the Public 9:00 a.m. until Noon at the Navarre Community Center. Topic: “Picture Perfect Parties”. A Mardi Gras design will be made to take home. Class fee of $20 includes lecture, demonstrations, supplies and hands-on workshop. Please register not later than January 11. This workshop is taught by Gina Jogan, and is open to the public January 25 • Executive Board Meeting - 9:00 a.m. February 1 • Regular Meeting Program: “Birds” Guest Speaker: Rebecca Rushing Bio: Rebecca worked five years with Dauphin Island Sea Lab (Dauphin Island, AL) as a scientific consultant/research biologist. She focused her research on sea grass ecology and marine invertebrates and also functioned as a lab assistant with their K-12th grade Discovery Hall Program. From 1992-1997 she was Curator of Education at The Zoo in Gulf Breeze and then Education Programs Manager at The Emporium Science Center in Mobile, AL. From 1999 through December of 2003 she ran her own company called Kids Edventures, teaching preschool enrichment programs throughout Gulf Breeze and Navarre. She then accepted the additional position of Director of the Navarre United Methodist Preschool and School age program until December 2003 when she decided to take a position as Park Services Specialist. February 3 • Jr. Garden Club wildflower class February 5 • Mardi Gras Parade ... a great success, check it out! NEW FLASH!!! ... All participants had a great time AND .... WE WON 2ND PLACE IN OUR CATEGORY!!

February 11 - Navarre Garden Club folks help with the Navarre Butterfly House cleanup February 14 • Sweetheart’s Luncheon Navarre Community Center, 11:30 a.m. for all members, potluck luncheon. We honor our members who do not have a “sweetheart” in their lives either through death or divorce. February 21• Executive Board Meeting - 9:00 a.m. February 26 • Fun with Flowers Workshop #4 - Open to the Public 9:00 a.m. until Noon at the Navarre Community Center. Topic: “Making Your Own Flowers”. Learn how to make our own flowers from other dried plant materials-Contrived Flowers. $20 fee covers lecture, demonstrations, supplies and hands-on workshop. Take home your own floral creation. Please register not later than February 16. This workshop is taught by Gina Jogan, and is open to the public. March 1 • Regular Meeting Program: “Miniature Designs” Guest Speaker: Mazie Glover Bio: Mazie served the Gulf Area Garden Club as President and Treasurer. She served on the FFGC State Board as Parks, Memorial Garden Pilgrimage, Scenic Route Chairman. She’s also served as Chairman of 1990 & 1994 State Conventions. She is a Master Flower Show Judge, been Flower Show Judges Council District I Director, and has served as Treasurer. She is a life member of both FFGC and National Garden Clubs, Inc., and is in FFGC’s Hall of Fame. March 8 • Beach Walking Tour .. windy but beautiful day .. March 19 • Fun with Flowers Workshop #5 - Open to the Public 9:00 a.m. until Noon at the Navarre Community Center. Topic: “What Can You Do with One Bunch?” Ways to use a single bunch of flowers. $20 fee covers lecture, demonstrations, supplies and hands-on workshop. Take home your own floral creation. March 29 • Executive Board Meeting - 9:00 a.m. April 1- 3 • Annual Emerald Coast Garden and Flower Festival, Milton, FL April 5 • Regular Meeting Program: “Recycling” Guest Speaker: Rick Harris Bio: Rick is a lifelong resident of Santa Rosa County. He was born and raised in the Pace area and lived about 15 years in the Oriole Beach area, but now lives in Pea Ridge. He and his wife, Marcia, have five children and three grandchildren. He has been employed with Santa Rosa County Public Works Department since April of 1992. Prior to that, he spent many years in welding and heavy equipment construction. In February of 1995, he had the privilege of becoming the Recycle Operations Manager for Santa Rosa County. April 8 • Annual Tasting Luncheon Including Plant and Bake Sale held at the Comfort Inn Conference Center, Navarre. Our big fund-raiser for the year. April 16 • Sign up for Horticulture Workshop, April 16th, “Gardening to Attract Birds and Butterflies” 9:30 a.m. at the Navarre Community Center (Registration/refreshments) Guest Speaker, Sandra Sherman, Executive Director of the Panhandle Butterfly House (10:00-11:30). April 18 • Fiscal Year 2005-2006 Budget planning meeting at Lynn's house. We will draft a budget to be presented at the May Planning Meeting. April 23 • The Great American Cleanup -- This is a NationWide community event. Meet at 8:00 a.m. at Navarre High School. Wear sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and bring gloves and water. The Great American Clean Up is mainland. We meet at the Navarre High School, register, pick up supplies, pick up debris, and return bags to dumpster. If you have an area that you would like to pick up, you can do that. Otherwise, we will pick up bad areas on Hwy 98, Hwy 87, and any other streets that are really bad. If you're not going to our Fun With Flowers Workshop today then please join us! April 23 • Fun with Flowers Workshop #6 - Open to the Public 9:00 a.m. until Noon at the Navarre Community Center. Topic: “Contrived Containers and Corsages”. Were there times that you wished you knew how to make beautiful corsages and didn't and then had to pay exorbitant prices? Daughter, son, niece or nephew getting married and you would like to cut the costs? Or, you could have helped your child’s scout troop or class room teacher make corsages for the children to celebrate Mother’s Day but didn't know how? Well, we have the answer for you! The Navarre Garden Club is holding another Fun with Flowers Class on April 23rd at the Navarre Community Center (1917 Navarre School Road, near the Post Office), Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. The cost is $20 which covers lecture, demonstrations, a hands-on workshop where you will make a corsage to take home and the cost of your materials. The topic is Contrived Containers (make your own) and Corsages. Please call Linda Henderson, 936-4950, to pre-register. We would like to know how many are planning to attend so we will have enough supplies on hand April 25 • Field Trip, Butterfly plants The
Navarre Garden Club is going on a Plant Shopping Spree/Field Trip. Interested
club members/friends/guests are to meet on Monday, April 25th, at the
Navarre Community Center (1917 Navarre School Road, near the Post Office)
to depart at 9:30 a.m. Garcon Point Bridge tolls are $6.00 round trip
(each vehicle) so we will be carpooling to defray costs and everyone
going will share this expense. We are visiting Rancho La Orquidea, Inc.
(AKA Alice's Nursery), 1124 Pearson Road, 983-8948. Directions: After
going through the Garcon Point toll booth make the third left onto Roughton
Rd. continue until you come to Pearson and turn right (Pearson is last
right before Roughton dead ends at a stop sign). Alice's Nursery is
about the fourth residence on the right. Look for her large green houses.
Nursery hours are: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. daily. Her prices are great

April 29 & 30 • FFGC Convention ... information on this great event being held in Tampa, FL May 3 • Installation Luncheon Navarre Community Center from 11 AM until 1 PM. Catered sit down lunch. If you haven't done so already get in contact with Carolyn to let her know you're coming and get your check to Lynn. All meals need to be prepaid. Thanks!!! May 5 • Spring District I Meeting Ft. Walton Gulf Area GC, Hosting May 16 • 2005-2006 Planning Retreat Meeting. MEMBERS ONLY Get involved in YOUR club. Come join us as we review and finalize our budget for next year and plan our activities. Your chance to make next year's club meetings, programs, fund raisers and workshops what YOU want!!
